They dont have great sound, extra features, or a catchy name, but they do have two other things: flat speakers and a very low price.
The slim design of the speakers makes them at least somewhat appropriate for side sleepers. While youll likely still feel them pressed between your ear and the pillow, theyre more comfortable than most earbuds or headphones. They clip onto each ear to hold them in place, and theres a four-foot headphone cable.
The design means you shouldnt expect much in the way of sound isolation, however, either coming in or going out. These earphones work best in a somewhat quiet environment, and if you sleep with a partner, you may need to keep the volume relatively low to avoid disturbing them.
As a result, these wouldnt be my first pick for anyone looking to block out a lot of outside noise while sleeping. If you just need to listen to a bit of white noise or a really boring podcast to help you drift off, however, these are an easy, low-cost way of doing so.
Best Wireless Earbuds: Apple Airpods Pro
Recommending general-purpose wireless earbuds for sleeping is tricky, as youll need to compromise somewhere. You can have small size, long battery life, strong noise cancelation, or decent comfort levels, but right now, you cant have them all. A dedicated device like the QuietOn 3 is still a better option if sleep is your main concern.
If you want something that can play music and podcasts as well, though, Apple’s Airpods Pro are the best noise-canceling earbuds for sleeping. Thats mainly because theyre smaller and more comfortable to lie on than most of the competition, and the noise cancelation is pretty good.
Theyre obviously also an impressive set of true wireless earbuds in their own right. Im not going to go into a full review of their features here since thats not the purpose of this article, but suffice it to say that theyve been near the top of most best-of lists since they were released.
The biggest downside for sleeping, however, is the battery life: at 4-5 hours, they simply wont last all night. To make matters worse, they announce their low-battery situation with a loud tone that may wake you up just in time to need to charge them again.
If you sleep on your back and dont move around much, being able to comfortably lie on your earbuds for long periods is less of a concern. In that case, itd be worth considering Sony’s WF-1000XM4 instead. Their larger size corresponds with a larger battery, and youll get a full 8 hours of use before they go flat.

What Types Of Headphones Are The Best For Sleeping
While most earbuds and headphones have a bulky construction, some are small enough to fit comfortably even when you take them to bed. As long as they dont hit the pillow or create too much pressure on your ear lobes, theyre perfectly fine to use during sleep.
However, it does depend on the overall design of which ones are more practical. The latter when choosing headphones is more important to those who are side sleepers.
What Side Do You Sleep On
In order to find the best pair of headphones for you, youll want to consider your sleeping position. If youre one of the lucky few that can sleep on their back all night, your options are plentiful. Youll likely be satisfied by sleep headphone headbands, earmuffs, and earbuds, so long as they fit snugly inside your ear . You might also be comfortable sleeping in a pair of everyday headphones if they dont protrude too far into your pillow.
If youre a side sleeper, things get a little more complicated. The key to selecting a comfortable pair of headphones is flexibility and diameter. You want to choose a model that wont stick out of your ears, causing uncomfortable pressure when placed between a pillow and your head. Look for a small earbud that can sit flush against your ears without any external tails. If youre interested in trying out a headband, search the specs to find the thinnest drivers. While you may sacrifice booming bass, youll sleep better without feeling any pain.
True face-down stomach sleepers will also encounter some challenges, namely gravity, which may pull over-ear and in-ear headphones down into your covers. We recommend finding a pair of snugly fitting earbuds or a headband that sacrifices onboard controls. While being able to hit play and pause without picking up your phone is helpful, most models place the control panel at the front of the band, which wont feel great resting against your forearm as you try to fall asleep.

Personally, I could live with wired headphones at night, but I love the convenience of putting my iPad on the night stand and streaming music via Bluetooth.
This way I also dont have to worry about unplugging when I need to go to the bathroom.
At present my favorite solution is to use wired headphones connecting to an Mpow BH203AB Bluetooth receiver which I clip to my shirt. This receiver has outstanding battery life and everything is attached to my body. All headphones in this review work well with this receiver.
Note that the Mpow doesnt come with a clip, but you can easily attach one yourself. For more on this see the last section of this post.
This has completely removed issues with getting entangled in the wires during the night
And I can also use the receiver with other wired headphones during the day in the gym or even on a motorbike.
My preference may change when I find perfectly comfortable sleep headphones with Bluetooth and long battery life at a reasonable price.

These are very similar in design to the Headband above but leans more towards the form of an eyemask.
Since many people who have trouble sleeping also use an eye mask, combining both items into one product is a good idea.
I liked these , the inbuilt audio controls for volume play and pause, which comes in handy in the dark as you dont need to fumble around to control them with your phone.
