  • Bluetooth automation for glucose meter
  • Manual input is hard work. Pricking yourself 3-4 times a day and having to fill the data in your favorite diabetes management app is sometimes cumbersome. That is why today, we are happy to announce our brand new feature automated Bluetooth connectivity with a number of glucose meters.

You can find the new option in the Data screen of Diabetes:M. It will allow you to find and connect to a Bluetooth enabled device and automatically send your reading to the app.

    Heres how it works

After connecting to your meter from the app, check your blood sugar. Depending on what you want to do, there are several possible uses:

First, when you use the connected meter to check your glucose, a log entry with the reading will be created automatically in Diabetes:M. If that is all you want to do great, its done!

If you have the Log Entry screen open, it will create the entry and fill in the information for the reading in the Glucose field. You can then add all the other information you want to be saved in this entry. When you are ready, just tap the Save icon. You will get a prompt whether you want to overwrite the entry . Tap yes and thats it.

If you have the Calculator screen open, you will go through the same process as in the Log Entry screen the Glucose field will flash and be automatically filled with the reading. Then you can make the calculations and save the log entry.

How Cgms Change Life With Diabetes

The new Glucometer which connects to your mobile phone! by Jothydev

The idea here is empowerment, as these devices provide some serious medical and lifestyle benefits.

First off, you can literally see in real time the effects of food and exercise on your blood glucose levels, and catch cases of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia as they happen, avoiding the potentially dangerous consequences. This is a huge advantage over historic static blood glucose monitoring, which only provides a single glucose reading at a time.

Theres also the convenience factor. CGMs can essentially eliminate the need for regular fingerstick tests, the long-standing only way to check blood sugar levels. Though fingersticks are sometimes needed to calibrate CGM systems and can still serve as a backup data source, they are no longer a constant, nagging, unpleasant to-do.

    Furthermore, studies (

here ) show that CGMs can help increase the users time-in-range , the overall percentage of time spent in a healthy glucose range. TIR is quickly becoming the new gold standard measure of positive diabetes outcomes.

CGMs can be especially beneficial for active children , for ensuring safety during physical activity and during nighttime glucose fluctuations.

Its also a potentially life-saving tool for people with diabetes who experience hypoglycemia unawareness, alerting them to impending low blood sugars when their own bodies fail to recognize the warning signs.

Verio Sync Review First Iphone Bluetooth Glucose Meter Is Flawed

    David Ahn, MD | September 15, 2014

Blood glucose monitors, popularized in the 1990s, are the precursors to the current generation of sensors in the digital health and quantified self movements. However, in the age of Fitbits and iPhones, glucose monitors are really showing their age. Most glucose meters are stuck in the past with old-fashioned displays, data that is difficult to export, and limited functionality.

iMedicalApps.com had the privilege of reviewing several newer glucometers that are hoping to bring glucose meters up to date.

The aptly-titled LifeScan Verio Sync is the first glucose meter in the US to use bluetooth to automatically and wirelessly transmit glucose readings to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. With the Verio Syncs seamless bluetooth syncing with the ubiquitous iPhone, is this the glucose meter weve all been waiting for?

The Hardware: Sleek and Light, with Lights!

The Verio Sync looks like a trendy glucometer with its Apple-white accents and white-on-black screen. While it might not be as futuristic-appearing as some other less recognizable glucometers, the design team at LifeScan did a good job balancing familiarity with modern aesthetics.

When first using the glucose meter, the inclusion of a glowing light where you insert the test strip stands out as a why doesnt every glucose meter have this? moment. A simple feature like this could be a huge advantage for a person with diabetes who might wake up hypoglycemic in the middle of the night.
