Nissan Rogue Sv Review: 2013 Nissan Rogue Sv

2014 Nissan Rogue Select – Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System Operating Tips (if so equipped)

The Nissan Rogue sort of flies under the radar as one of, in my opinion, the lower-profile models in Nissan’s lineup. It’s not as funky as the Juke, as sporty as the Z, or as desirable as the GT-R. In my eyes, the Rogue lives in the Murano’s shadow and I often mistake one for the other at a glance.

The Good

The Bad

The Bottom Line

So you can understand why I was in no rush to hop behind the wheel of the 2013 Nissan Rogue SV that recently found itself parked in the Car Tech garage and why I was totally unprepared to love this little crossover as much as I did.

Power train and performance Under the Rogue’s unassuming hood is an equally unassuming 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that outputs 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. That power flows through a continuously variable transmission and, ultimately, to the front wheels. At an additional cost, an all-wheel drive system is available that still defaults to front-drive under most conditions, but can shift up to 50 percent of the available torque to the rear axle when it detects slippage.

I was unprepared for how much I loved the 2013 Rogue.

Don’t turn your nose up at the Rogue’s transmission Nissan builds the best CVTs in the business.

A Sport mode bumps up the idling and cruising rpm by about 500 revs and causes the CVT to more aggressively seek higher engine speeds, but it’s really not necessary or even noticeably sportier than the standard program.

What Impacts A Cars Reliability

Short answer, you. The longer answer is a cars reliability and longevity are inextricably tied to how you take care of your vehicle, your maintenance schedule , your conservative or brash driving habits, and whether or not you live in climates where extreme weather could affect the cars construction.

Preemptive maintenance like regular oil changes, fluid flushes, tire rotation, and fuel system cleaners, along with keeping the exterior and underside of your car clean, will all increase the life expectancy of your car. Keeping it out of the harsh desert or tropical sun, as well as away from the rust-inducing salted roadways of winter, will also extend its life.

And lastly, keeping the Mario Andretti driving antics to a minimum will keep your brakes, engine, tires, and chassis under-stressed and happy for far longer compared to hitting every trip to the grocery store like its the Indy 500.

Is The Nissan Rogue A Reliable Car

Unfortunately, Nissan Rogue doesn’t have the best reliability, especially with the number of reported complaints to many review websites like carcomplaints.com. While it is hard for a vehicle not to receive any complaints, Nissan Rogue received about 177 in 2013, 146 in 2014, 130 in 2015, and 76 in the 2016 model years. This trend suggests that Nissan Rogue is working on improving its quality and reducing the number of frequently reported problems.

The 2013 Nissan Rogue

The 2013 Nissan Rogue deserves its own heading due to numerous issues associated with this model year. Customers have complained about transmission failures, body/paint issues, engine acceleration problems, and electrical issues.

Customer Complaint

One customer complaint regarding the transmission failure read, I bought this car in March 2016, in October of 2016 the transmission went out. Luckily it was under warranty so with a price tag of $4500 I only had to pay $450. It was given a warranty of 12 months or 12,000 miles. Now almost 3 years later the transmission went out in it again however this time it isn’t under warranty. How can a 6-year-old car already be going on its third transmission? I have had to spend so much money fixing this car it has been ridiculous.

Common Repair Cost

Depending on which issue your 2013 Nissan Rogue has, repairs could cost $100 to $4,500.

Nissan has faced, well, lets just call it adversity in recent years. Thanks to poor sales and a former boss getting arrested and then fleeing Japan in a music equipment case with air holes, the company has floundered. One of the stark contrasts to the companys downturn, though, has been the success of the Rogue compact crossover.

The Rogue, which enters an all-new generation for 2021, has been and continues to be, one of Nissans best-sellers. Hundreds of thousands of Rogues have been sold and will continue to be sold into the near future. Sales success, however, doesnt always mean reliability success, and the Rogue has its share of reliability issues.

To better educate prospective customers, The Drives crack informational team has put together this guide of what issues, problems, and concerns you should be aware of before you buy a new or used Rogue.

    Wireless Carplay Final Thoughts

Setting up Bluetooth ® on a 2018 Nissan Rogue without Navigation – Nashville, Tennessee (TN)

Its hard to put into words exactly how much Wireless CarPlay changes the game, especially when its done properly like it has been on the new Nissan Rogue.

It works so well that it feels much more like Apple has built its own infotainment system into the vehicle its so easy to forget that my iPhone is even part of the process. Most of the time it stays in my pocket, yet I can still rely on CarPlay being ready to go every time I get into the car. Plus, thanks to wireless charging, I can just drop it right onto the centre console anytime it needs more juice without having to worry about fussing with a cable, which also makes for a safer driving experience.

Sadly, the number of vehicles that include Wireless CarPlay is still pretty limited at this point, but the rapid expansion in 2021 models provides hope that it will soon become even more widespread. Its now even easier to imagine a portless iPhone appearing in the next few years, especially since I havent yet found a need to plug anything at all into the Lightning port on my iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Common Nissan Rogue Problems And Repair Costs

As with other car brands, not all of Rogue models are built to the same exacting standards as the reliable vehicles mentioned above. Heres a quick rundown of problematic Rogue offerings, including the issues, customer complaints, and repair costs that will help you make the best decision when purchasing your next car.

Enable Carplay And Siri On Iphone

You must have iPhone 5 or newer device with iOS 7.1 or newer version to use Apple CarPlay on Nissan Rogue. Before you begin, ensure CarPlay and Siri are enabled on your iPhone. Also, make sure that the Press Home for Siri option is enabled under Siri & Search in settings.

If you cant see CarPlay or Siri & Search under your iPhone settings, then go to Settings> Screen Time> Content & Privacy Restrictions> Allowed Apps, and make sure both CarPlay and Siri & Search are enabled.
