Its a known problem that the Bluetooth device will disconnect from Google Home over time, making it unusable.

Weve found the only solution so far is to reconnect the Bluetooth on your phone or other device and then connect it again with Google Home. This can be very disappointing if you dont know what the problem is.

Google Home has been experiencing this issue since 2018, but the real solution is not yet known. Thankfully, the company has acknowledged the problem and is working on getting this fixed.

After almost one year, a Google Nest official has finally replied on the Official Google Nest support thread that their team is working to fix this issue.

We are aware of the problem and our engineering team is working on a solution. Stay tuned for updates! Nest Support.

This doesnt help much, though! All Google Home users want to know when they can expect it fixed.

Troubleshoot Problems With Bluetooth Accessories

If you can turn on Bluetooth but having problems pairing or using a Bluetooth accessory, try the following steps to try to fix common problems with Bluetooth accessories.

You should also check your Bluetooth device manufacturer’s websiteespecially if you have other Bluetooth devices that are working. The device manufacturer will probably have more detailed, product-specific information and troubleshooting steps.

Google Homes Touchpad Stopped Working

Google Homes touchpad is very subdued. The only way youd notice it is in the right light, or if you ran a finger across it at random. Its easy to use to control volume and other aspects right from the device quickly, well, except when it isnt working.

There arent that many ways to fix a rogue touchpad, but I know of a few. From the top of the list to the bottom, try:

  • Unplugging Google Home and letting it sit for a minute before turning it on again.
  • Wiping the top of Google Home with a soft and dry
  • Plugging Google Home into a different power source, or a different outlet in the house.
  • Update Google Home through the Google Home app if you havent already.

If none of these clear up the problem, the only thing left to do aside from either living with the issue, or returning Google Home for a new one is a factory reset.

To factory reset your Google Home, press and hold the microphone mute button on your Google Home for at least 15 seconds.

If your volume is turned on, youll hear a confirmation. Otherwise, hold the button for at least 30 seconds to ensure the reset process starts.

Ask Assistant To Play Music

Now, you can say things like, “Hey Google, shuffle my date night playlist” or “Hey Google, turn down the volume.” The music should automatically play on your Bluetooth speaker – without you having to tell Google the name of the device. You’ll still need to talk to your Google Home or Nest device, rather than your Bluetooth speakers, to ask Assistant questions, getting weather updates, and using other commands.

How to setup Google Home Mini as a bluetooth speaker

I mentioned blowing on the microphone before with another problem, and doing it again here helps more than you might think. If you can see the two dots on top of Google Home, gently blow on both of them to help clear them of any dust or residue thats messing with the microphone.

If this doesnt fix the problem, you could have a hardware issue on your hands that only .

Google Home Wont Connect To Wi

Google Home does most if not all of its communication with other smart devices over Wi-Fi. Thankfully, whether your connection only drops occasionally, wont connect at all, or is just generally spotty its still fixable.

If you think the problem is with your network, try:

  • Resetting your router and/or modem by turning them on and off again.
  • Renaming your Wi-Fi network.
  • Changing the password to your network, or getting rid of the password only temporarily.
  • Connecting Google Home to a different network.
  • Disconnecting other devices from your network to see if theyre interfering with Google Homes connection.

If you think the problem is with Google Home, try:

  • Resetting Google Home by unplugging it and plugging it back in again.
  • Moving Google Home to a different location in the house, preferably closer to your router.
  • Factory resetting Google Home by pressing and holding the microphone mute button for 15 seconds, and then doing the first time setup again. A factory reset will clear all personal data from Google Home.

If you still cant resolve the problem, all you can do is wait for an update, or contact the call center.

How Do I Know If I Have A Bluetooth Compatible Tv

For the most part, if you bought your TV within the last couple of years, it most likely has Bluetooth capabilities. If youre still not sure, however, check your TVs settings. Check its audio, speakers, and other related categories.

As mentioned earlier, if you do not have Bluetooth capabilities, you could get the transmitter mentioned above.

Use Google Home As A Bluetooth Speaker On A Paired Device

Once the device is paired with Google Home, you can see it on the list.

For example, in this guide, I paired Amazon Fire TV stick with Google Home so that the TV stick can use Google Home as a Bluetooth speaker.

When Fire TV is using Google Home as a Bluetooth speaker, you can find the status of Google Home as Bluetooth Audio as shown below.

Your Address In Google Home Isnt Correct

Your address is used for multiple Google Home commands, so its important that your device gets it right. Hearing the weather for Toronto doesnt do you much good if you want to know if you need an umbrella today in Richmond.

To set, or fix your address, go to your settings in your Google Home app.

In the top left corner of the screen, press the button there and choose More Settings. From there, please Google Account Settings, Personal info, and then Home & work locations. Now change any address you see to the correct ones to fix the problem.

Google Will Randomly Respond Even When Not Asked A Question

If your Google Home suddenly speaks up even though you havent asked anything, its not because theres a ghost in the house that wants to know the weather, but because something in the room is making excess noise near Google Homes microphone.

If you have Google Home positioned near a window, or a speaker, move it somewhere else, so it wont confuse something else for your voice.

How To Pair A Bluetooth Speaker With Google Home

Google Home devices typically produce formidable audio. However, some smaller devices like Google Home mini are lacking in this department.

This can be particularly frustrating for those who like all the other convenient options of Google Home. For instance, you can play music only using your voice commands and navigate your audio libraries smoothly.

But what if you could pair any Google Home with a first-rate Bluetooth speaker?

Luckily, you can do this fairly easily. Lets dive right in and explain how to enhance your Google Home speaker.

‘ok Google’ Also Wakes Your Phone

Saying “OK Google” might wake up your Android phone and your Google Home speaker.

If you have an Android device with “OK Google” detection turned on, you may notice that saying “OK Google” in the presence of your Google Home will wake both the speaker and your phone.

It’s only a minor issue since only one device — the Google Home — will respond. But there’s no way to change the wake words for the Google Home speaker or Google Assistant on your phone. As of right now, there is also no way to have your phone respond instead of Google Home.

If you want the phone to respond instead, the best option is to walk out of the Google Home’s listening range.

    My Nest Mini Wont Connect

Use your Google Home as a Bluetooth Speaker

If you have trouble connecting with Wi-Fi, start with the basics first. Are you trying to connect to the right Wi-Fi network? Are you absolutely sure your password is correct? If this checks out, try moving your Mini closer to your router to see if maybe theres a blind spot or interference issue.

If everything seems to be working well, the best solution is to reboot your Nest Mini. A basic reboot is very easy: Just unplug the power cord from the Nest Mini itself , and leave it unplugged for about two minutes. Then plug it back in, and start the connection process over in your Google Home app.

Note: With simpler smart speakers like the Nest Mini, rebooting is always a good option for addressing minor problems. If you havent tried rebooting, no matter your issue, give it a shot. Theres also an alternative reboot option in the Home app that may be easier for you: Go to Settings, choose More, and then select Reboot to begin.

    • Sometimes Home devices experience bugs that prevent them from playing music properly, especially from certain channels. Head to the Home app and make sure all updates have been applied to the Home device to see if this addresses the problem.
    • If you have a new Home device, you have to link third-party services like Spotify before they will play. Linking is relatively easy, and you can do it in the account settings on your Home app.

Google Home Mini review: a capable yet cheap smart speaker ...

When I was testing this process out on a number of different Google Nest devices — both speakers and displays — occasionally I would try to disconnect my phone and Google would ask, “You want to clear your list of paired Bluetooth devices, right?”

If your Google Assistant asks this, the definitive answer is “No.”

“Clearing” your list of paired devices will make Google Assistant forget the device you just paired . Not only will you have to go back and redo the first pairing steps as detailed above, you’ll probably have to go into your mobile device or computer’s Bluetooth settings and “forget” the Nest device from there, too. Otherwise you might get the same error message as me, that your device cannot connect to your Nest speaker all of a sudden.
