Should You Buy The Sonos Roam
The Sonos Roam is the firm’s cheapest and smartest speaker. Portable and with Bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity, the Toblerone-shaped Roam is a great alternative to the company’s first Bluetooth speaker, the 2019-released Sonos Move .
Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, the Roam is rated IP67 waterproof and boasts a 10-hour battery life despite being a sixth of the size of the Move.
It comes with an excellent bag of tricks, too. Sonos Swap lets you ‘hand off’ whatever music the Roam is playing to another Sonos speaker nearby, while improved Auto TruePlay uses the speaker’s microphones to optimise the sound according to the speaker’s surroundings.
Should you buy the Roam?
Want the smallest and smartest speaker in the range? The picnic-friendly Roam could be just the ticket. Sound quality is seriously full-bodied, but it’s fair to say other Bluetooth speakers offer a slightly more dynamic performance. Does that matter? Not really not when you factor in the Roam’s nomadic abilities, AirPlay 2 support and robust build quality. All in all, a superb Sonos starter speaker.
Is it the best portable wireless speaker for its price?
The Roam is obviously unique in that it’s the only portable Bluetooth speaker at this price that integrates into the wi-fi Sonos ecosystem. If that USP isn’t actually a big deal for you, mind, know that you can get better sound for the money elsewhere from the JBL Charge 5, Audio Pro Addon C3 and Bang & Olufsen Beosound A1 , for example.

Can I Use Sonos Speakers With An Android Device
You can, but you’ll miss out on one of the Sonos ecosystem’s best features: TruePlay. The room calibration feature tunes the sound of Sonos speakers to the dimensions of your room, and right now, it only works with iOS devices. You could always borrow a friend’s iPhone to setup your new Sonos speaker, though.

Should You Buy The Sonos Arc Sl
If you’re on a tighter budget, Sonos offers a cheaper, mic-free version of the Sonos Arc called the Arc SL. Because there’s no built-in microphone, you can’t speak to control it but you can easily add voice controls by wirelessly connecting the Arc SL to a voice-enabled speaker such as the Sonos One, or . Indeed, you might already have such a speaker in your home, in which case the Arc SL could be a canny buy.
It looks identical to the Arc and is just as capable as filling large rooms with immersive Dolby Atmos sound at a slightly more affordable price. The Arc SL is currently available at Costco in the US and Canada, for around $50 less than the Arc. Costco also carries this exclusive Arc SL ‘Shadow Edition’, which is the same product in a fetching dark grey finish. There’s still no word on when the Arc SL will arrive in the UK, if ever.
Should you buy the Arc SL?
If you want convincing surround sound performance from one of the finest soundbars on the market, but you’re not bothered about built-in voice controls, the Arc SL is a smart buy over the standard Arc.
Is it the best soundbar for its price?
Yes indeed. Like we said of the Sonos Arc , we don’t think its performance is bettered until you reach the Sony HT-A7000 , which simply adds more width to the soundstage and has bass that’s also the tautest, most controlled and most powerful we’ve heard from a one-bar proposition.

How Do Sonos Speakers Work
Sonos speakers are the latest in modern technology. They improve the sound quality throughout your home and are able to do so with a sound connection to your homes Wi-Fi.
Instead of having to plug each speaker into the next one and running multiple cables throughout your audio streaming area, you can simply connect them over Wi-Fi and omit the jumble of cords.
Sonos speakers connect to the main base and are managed through the Sonos App . Multiple Sonos speakers are connected to one another via Wi-Fi, so they do not require a cabled connection between the speaker system.
This is incredibly helpful when arranging the best audio output for your home. Anyone who has ever attempted to create their own home theater knows what it is like to have to arrange speakers.
It is imperative to place the speakers just right to incorporate the natural acoustics of your living space with the power and pitch of the audio streaming from the speakers.
Sonos speakers permit you to use the Sonos App on your Wi-Fi enabled phone or computer to manage them. Each Sonos speaker will need to be connected to the Wi-Fi system within your home, but you can manage this through the Sonos App. Then, you will have full control to be able to stream the audio of your dreams.
Now, when you invite your friends over for a thrilling movie night, you can know confidently that you are in for an audio thrill ride as your speakers will work their magic.
The Sonos Playbase Is The Best Tv Stand Soundbase
If you want to build a new entertainment system or add to a pre-existing one, the Playbase might be for you. This multifunctional soundbase is perfect for anyone with limited space: it works perfectly as a stand-alone solution to your TV audio or as a part of a large surround sound setup. Sure, there are several cheaper soundbars that will get the job done but only the Playbase pairs up with other Sonos products.

Do not mistake this for the Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter. The Bose Bluetooth Audio Adapter is a Bluetooth receiver to send audio signal to smart speaker or home stereo so you can play music from your pair device wirelessly.
On the other hand, the Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter is a transmitter that when connected to a media player or home theaters optical, AUX or RCA output, transmits signal audio wirelessly to Bluetooth enabled speakers.
These work very differently so be sure to get the right one for your application. To add Bluetooth connectivity to a Sonos Play:5 you will need a Bluetooth receiver.
Best Sonos Speakers: Notable Mentions
- Sonos Roam: This is a portable speaker that operates over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and offers an IP67 rating. You can link it up with your Sonos system or take it out on the town. The Roam has a 10-hour battery life, which is pretty good for its compact size.
- Sonos Sub : If youre looking to boost the low end of your music, this wireless subwoofer will create rich bass without unwanted booming and rumbling.

Sonos Trueplay And Auto Trueplay
To get the best audio quality, you also need to tune the speakers to the room they’re in. A feature called Trueplay that modifies the acoustic output of the speakers. After you launch Trueplay, your Sonos speaker will start emitting a series of tones for about 45 seconds.
During this time, you must hold your iOS device upside down and walk slowly around the room the speakers are in, waving your phone up and down. The app records what it hears through your iPhone’s microphones and, based on that, changes how the speakers produce sound.
The Sonos Move battery-powered smart speaker introduced new Auto TruePlay technology for Sonos speakers that eliminates the process of manual tuning. Rather, it uses its internal microphones to adjust audio output for the surrounds. In our Sonos Move review, we found Auto TruePlay worked as advertised. It’s great on the Sonos Roam, too.
Should You Buy The Sonos One
A plug-in rather than portable wireless speaker, the Sonos One smart speaker is a revamped version of the now-discontinued Play:1 with Amazons Alexa voice-control built-in and it passes its smart test with flying colours.
The One’s solid, detailed, spacious and organised presentation impresses, and its Alexa is as seamless to use as on Amazons own speakers.
It has the crucial feature of being able to use Alexa to control Spotify, and it even supports AirPlay 2 and Siri, with Google Assistant support offering an alternative means for voice control. The One is easily one of the most well-specified and versatile smart speakers around, and a great way for existing Sonos users to affordably expand their multi-room set-up around the house.
Should you buy the Sonos One?
You wouldnt buy the Sonos One just for its AI smarts. But it’s a great perk that’s hard to ignore. If you want a good-sounding wireless speaker thats your stepping stone into the world of multi-room streaming that just happens to have the added bonus of voice-control all for an affordable sum then the One is the one for you. Don’t care for voice control? Save some money and get the cheaper Sonos One SL instead.
Is it the best smart speaker for its price?
It’s not the best-sounding smart speaker out there , but it’s not far off and nevertheless a great way to kickstart or expand a Sonos multi-room system.

Bose Soundlink Flex Review: Bluetooth Speaker Of The Year
The Bose SoundLink Flex sounds amazing in every environment and just put all other Bluetooth speakers on notice.
I currently donât have lots of Bluetooth speakers in my life, but that may be about to change.
Iâm not super adventurous and am most often in spaces where wireless earbuds and headphones are most appropriate. At home, Iâve slowly built a Sonos-based audio system, with a HomePod mini in my bedroom to round everything out.
But there are times when I miss the convenience of a portable Bluetooth speaker. Itâs nice to have something you can carry around with you from shower to the dresser to the kitchen in the morning. A lightweight but loudspeaker that can easily come with you to the pool is also hard to beat. This is how Iâve been enjoying my time with Boseâs latest Bluetooth speaker, the $150 Bose SoundLink Flex.
After weeks of testing against both my Sonos system and some competitors, this is the first speaker in a long time to tempt me to reintroduce at least one Bluetooth speaker to my life.

How To Set Up Your Sonos Surround Sound Speaker System
If you are just getting started with setting up your Sonos surround sound speaker system, do not fret. This system was made to be user-friendly for those of us who are not as technologically savvy as others might be.
To set up your Sonos surround sound speaker system, you must first download the Sonos App. Then, you will pair the individual Sonos speaker through this App by following the step-by-step directions that appear in the App. Begin by pairing one speaker and then move onto each speaker in your system.
Truly, the Sonos App and connecting this system is going to feel like a dream come true. Especially if you have ever had to set up an entire home theater surround sound system before Wi-Fi enabled speakers came about, then this will feel like magic.
But, rest assured, that even if this does not come naturally to you, you can always look up the steps for your specific speaker online or in your user manual. Then, it is off to stream the audio of a lifetime.
How Does Sonos Work
Sonos uses your wireless network to allow all of its speakers to communicate with one another and your controller.
First, you need to connect a single Sonos speaker to the same Wi-Fi network as your smartphone or computer. Once that connection is established , you’ll be able to play your music and other content on the device.
But it’s when you add another speaker that Sonos becomes a special experience. Sonos creates a secure mesh network that connects all of the speakers in your home. The network, called SonosNet, is an extension of your existing Wi-Fi.
When you have multiple speakers connected, data is transmitted over that mesh network to tell one speaker to play, for example, Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” in the kitchen and Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning” in the family room. And when you want one track to sync across all of the speakers in your home, again, that data is transferred over the mesh network.
Sonos’ network is proprietary to the company and, therefore, delivers an experience you won’t see replicated anywhere else.
