Hows The Battery Life Of The Skullcandy Crusher Wireless

On the bottom of the left ear cup are a 3.5mm input and a microUSB charging port.

Skullcandy claims a battery life of roughly 40 hours of constant playback, which would be fairly impressive all on its own. However, in our objective testing, it surpassed even that clocking in at 57 hours, 28 minutes. To be fair though, this was with the bass slider turned all the way down, so if you think youre going to be using pumping bass often you should expect a little less.

The biggest downside here is that in order to charge them youre going to have to use an older microUSB cable instead of the newer USB-C. While that may not be a problem for most people now, it will get a little more annoying in a few years when everything is USB-C. On the bright side, 10 minutes on the charger will give you roughly 180 minutes of constant playback.

Whats It Like To Use The Skullcandy Crusher Wireless

The Skullcandy Crusher Wireless headphones have folding hinges for a more portable way to carry.

Skullcandy isnt exactly known for itsahemluxury build. While the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless is made of cheaper plastic, its still sturdy. The matte black coating resists fingerprints and the headphone and headband faux leather padding is pretty substantial. The combination makes for a fairly comfortable pair of headphones.

The buttons along the bottom of the headphones feel cheap, but the tactile response is almost perfect. Theres also the bass slider on the left ear cup, which is a bit stiff, and inside each ear cup is a low-end driver setup that only provides haptic feedback. This slider lets you control how much extra bass you want.

On the headband is a small cutout that makes the rubber plastic headband way more comfortable for long listening sessions.

The padding on the bottom of the headband is made of a similar cheap rubber that youd find on something like the Beats EP. This kind of rubber pulls at hair constantly and can be a literal pain. Skullcandy minimizes this problem with a small cutout.

Noise Cancellation And Ambient Mode

In ANC mode, a slight background noise is perceptible, but otherwise, the noise-cancelling really doesnt do a bad job, as outside noises are reduced over a relatively large range. Only in the high-frequency range does the effectiveness diminish somewhat so that a discreet whisper of a boiling kettle remains detectable. Pounding rain and the rumble of thunderstorms, on the other hand, are barely audible, while construction and street noise, as well as background voices, are clearly attenuated. The sound also seems slimmer as the bass content is reduced, and this lowers the playback volume somewhat. This sound change is not noticeable in Ambient Mode, which is impressive except for the background noise. Voices, in particular, are amplified cleanly so that public transport speaker announcements are easily understandable when playback is paused, and a conversation can be held without any problems. Even at medium volume, people in the immediate vicinity can still be understood. Furthermore, a good feature is how the ANC and ambient mode can be used when the headphones are wired, by briefly pressing the middle remote button as soon as these over-ears have been switched on.

What’s inside the box

With the new Skullcandy Hesh ANC headphones you’re getting the headphones, plus a USB to USB-C charging cord , cables for plugging in if you don’t or can’t go wireless, and a soft bag for carrying them.

There’s also a quick start guide which is helpful if you’re new to Skullcandy. If not, just plug them into an outlet for a charge and you’re good to go. The headphones can hold 22 hours of battery life, and you can get a fast juice of three hours in just 10 minutes. That’s a huge plus for anyone in a work-at-home situation, basically giving you a chunk of your work day covered in minutes.

Lightweight, plus other features

There is also a Tile tracker inside the headphones, a feature Skullcandy has now offered on their audio devices for some time. Tile lets you track a device via the Tile app, and you can use this to locate the headphones, even if they’re not close.

Creative Sound Blaster Jam V2

I was a fan of Creative’s original Sound Blaster Jam headphones that came out in 2015 and had a decidedly retro look and feel with good sound for the money. Now the headphone is available in a 2.0 version that has some key upgrades, including Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C charging, improved call quality and multipoint Bluetooth pairing that allows you to pair it to two devices simultaneously. Battery life is rated at up to 22 hours.

I was able to pair the headphones with a Mac Mini and an iPhone 12 Pro and then switch audio between them. Often when pairing Bluetooth headphones with Mac and Windows PCs, one can encounter some issues, but once I got the headphones paired with both my PC and phone, they made a good pair of work-from-home headphones. Also, the price is right for parents looking for a decent set of kids’ headphones for remote learning and everyday use.

Comfortable for on-ear headphones, the Jam V2 are lightweight and have nicely balanced sound with good detail and bass that’s ample but not overpowering. Call quality was good in my tests with callers saying they could hear me well even on the noisy streets of New York. No carry pouch is included, but you do get an extra set of foam ear pads, which is good because they will wear out over time.

The headphones have physical buttons for controlling volume and playback and there’s AptX support for devices that support the wireless streaming codec.

Despite not being the best sounding headphones at this price point, the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless offers a great package at this price point. Its a solid alternative to anyone who wants a consumer-friendly sound without paying Beats prices. At the same time, theyre not a bad pair of everyday headphones either. While its not indestructible, it seems like it will hold up against everyday wear and tear.

The Skullcandy Venue are decent mixed usage wireless over-ear headphones. They have an exciting sound with a V-shaped or smiley face signature, which is great for bass-heavy genres but may not be ideal for more vocal-centric music. They are fairly comfortable headphones for long listening sessions and have great battery life. They are also noise canceling and do a decent job at isolating you in noisy conditions. Unfortunately, theres a small and somewhat annoying hissing sound that can be heard when no audio is playing, and some may find the headphones to be too tight on the head. They also dont have a companion app with additional customization options, which is slightly disappointing when compared to other headphones in their price range. On the upside, they are easy to use headphones with a stylish design, and decent performance that should please most listeners especially if you like a little extra bass.
