If Windows Update Doesn’t Work

If the driver does not install through this process, please try the steps below to manually install the 12.0.1.750 driver that is normally installed through Windows Update.

  • Download usb-bt4le-win10.zip and open it. It should open through Compressed Folder Tools, unless you have other decompression software installed
  • If you have a 32-bit version of Windows 10, please download usb-bt4le-win10_x86.zip instead.
  • You should see a folder in there called Broadcom 64 . Drag that folder to your desktop and open it. This is to extract the files
  • Inside the extracted folder on your desktop, you will find a lot of files, but near the top should be one named “bcbtums-win8x64-brcm.inf” Right-click on that one and select Install. If “.inf” doesn’t show, use the one that says “setup information”
  • There are a few reasons this could be happening, depending on the operating system used on your PC.

Best Overall: Homespot Bluetooth Transmitter For Nintendo Switch

The HomeSpot Bluetooth Transmitter for Nintendo Switch is a small and easy-to-use Bluetooth transmitter that connects to the bottom of the Switch. It’s not just for portable use, though, and it can also be connected to the USB located on the Switch dock. The HomeSpot Bluetooth Transmitter is actually a dual-channel device, which means that two people can listen simultaneously. It’s a nice feature for those who take their local couch gaming online.

The button on the left side of the device controls the first player’s channel, and the button on the right controls the second player. Two LED lights correspond with each player and flash a different color to indicate whether a player is muted or if they haven’t paired their headphones yet. Audiophiles take note: the HomeSpot Bluetooth Transmitter also supports SBC, Qualcomm aptX, and Qualcomm aptX Low Latency codecs, The light in the center indicates what type of codec you’re currently using, and they can be swapped with just a button press. There’s even an internal mic so you can chat during games.

Turn Your Phone Into A Wireless Modem Using Bluetooth Dongles

Smartphones with 3G, 4G or 5G network access provide Internet connections in many places where there is not a Wi-Fi® signal. Connect a Bluetooth adapter to your laptop and create a wireless bridge that converts your phone into a Bluetooth modem, so you have access to the web anywhere the smartphone has access to the network. Linux-compatible Bluetooth adapters and other wireless adapters provide custom PC builds with instant access to the Internet.

    Flaws But Not Dealbreakers

    USB

As is the case with all the headphone adapters we tested, using the BTR renders your headphones inline remote/mic unusable, so you have to rely on the microphone and control buttons on the BTR or your source device. The BTRs button layout is not ideal. Some adapters we tested had individual buttons for power, play/pause, skip, reverse, volume up, and volume down. The BTR, however, has only three buttons the volume buttons also function as track skip and reverse. For instance, to go to the beginning of a track, you press the volume-down button for a bit longer than usuala long press, so to speak.

The microphone on the FiiO transmits passable audio. The person on the other end of the line should be able to understand what youre saying, but you might sound compressed and robotic. Its fine for a quick call or chat, but we dont recommend using it for long conversations.

    Controller Support On Linux

Linux has extensive support for gamepads. However, it requires a great deal of manual configuration. Because of this lack of simplicity in configuring controllers, we do not recommend or provide support for using controllers on Linux.

Please see this article from the Arch Linux Wiki for details about manual configuration of various controllers.

    Best Overall: Homespot Pro Adapter

    • Can’t use with a protective case
    • Not the most affordable BT adapter

For those who use their Switch fairly frequently and simply want the ability to use their headphones or earbuds via Bluetooth, HomeSpots Pro adapter is where its at. Plus, with its 2-in-1 audio mixer, you can connect your smartphone and your headphones at the same time, allowing you to seamlessly listen to music or talk on the phone while gaming.

The HomeSpot Pro transmitter has intuitive indicators that light up and let you know if your devices are connected, if EQ or aptX is enabled for low latency, and if your internal mic is muted. It also has Bluetooth 5.0 support, an internal microphone for easy voice chatting, and simple button controls that are a breeze to master.

This adapter connects to your Switch via the USB-C charging port, though theres also a USB-C to USB-A adapter included so you can still use the adapter with your Switch dock, PC, or even PS4/PS5 console. Since it connects via USB-C, this adapter doesnt have a battery that you have to worry about keeping charged.

And although the version pictured has red and blue buttons, HomeSpot has pretty much every color combination of Joy-Cons out there. So you can easily customize this Bluetooth adapter to match the color of your favorite Joy-Cons, which we love.

    Cons

    • Doesn’t work with a protective case
    • Blue & red colors may not match your particular Joy-Cons
    • Doesn’t work with thick protective cases

    Extra Stable Extra Reliable

The C81 USB Bluetooth adapter features Bluetooth v5.0 technology. It is not only more stable and more reliable and less prone to interference, but also much less energy consuming than its predecessors. However, it is completely backwards compatible with audio devices equipped with earlier Bluetooth versions, theres no need to worry about compatibility.

What Are Factors That Should Be Considered Before Choosing The Best Usb Bluetooth Adapter

    Connection Stability

The stability of the Bluetooth connection of the adapter with other devices is the first factor you need to consider. If the adapter cannot establish a stable connection, there is no point in buying it since you won’t be able to work properly. Also, you need a secure transmission route so that there is no interference with the signals. Thats why you should choose a device that has proper SSL and other security certifications.

    Transmission Range

Second, you need to check the transmission range of the USB Bluetooth adapter. Usually, the recently upgraded products offer a higher distance range for better signal transmission between your computer and the connected Bluetooth device. But if you have chosen an old model, the range will be less than the standard distance. So, make sure you get a USB Bluetooth adapter for wireless device connection with a distance range that will allow you to operate your devices with ease.

    Compatibility With OS

Some USB Bluetooth adapters are made for only one or two specific operating systems like Mac and Linux. On the other hand, some adapters have the potential to connect to any OS, irrespective of the technical configurations. Also, you need to check whether the USB adapter has any dependency on the OS version or not. For example, if a certain product is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8, it may or may not be appropriate for Windows 10.

Best For Multiple Devices: Gulikit Route Air Pro Bluetooth Adapter

The GuliKit Route Air Pro Bluetooth Adapter is compatible with the Switch and Switch Lite in both handheld and docked mode and can also be easily used with a PS4, PS5, or any PC using Windows 8 or later. It supports headsets using Bluetooth 2.1 through 5.0 and has dual connections to allow two players to hear the sound if you’re playing with a friend.

A ceramic antenna provides clear sound quality up to 33 feet away, so you won’t have to worry about how far you are from your docked console. The device itself is only 5mm, making it fit pretty seamlessly on your console in handheld mode without adding weight or interfering with the screen.

The low latency codec should keep you from missing anything while playing Fortnite with friends. An included tiny microphone can be plugged in if you also want to use voice chat, but it doesn’t allow you to use your headset’s actual mic. That means it’s more likely to pick up other sounds from your room which can be distracting.

How You Plan To Use Your Switch Adapter

Mini USB Type C Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter Dongle ...

Since Nintendo Switch Bluetooth is mainly used to connect to the controllers, it requires an adapter to use Bluetooth audio with the console. Knowing how you plan to use your adapter when playing your device is especially helpful in determining which one you go with. For example, if you plan to use Bluetooth headphones when playing in handheld mode, its of no importance whether your adapter plugs into the consoles charging port. On the other hand, if you need to be able to charge the Switch while using Bluetooth headphones or speakers, make sure you get an adapter that plugs into the units headphone port.

    Why You Should Trust Us

Former Wirecutter staff writer Daniel Varghese wrote the majority of this article. Daniel has used many microphones and headphones as a musician, podcast producer, and college radio DJ. He has also tested several styles of wired and wireless headphones for Wirecutter.

Adrienne Maxwell, supervising editor of Wirecutters AV coverage, conducted the most recent round of testing in April 2021. Adrienne has worked as a writer and editor in the consumer electronics industry for over 20 years, and has reviewed numerous audio and video products during that time. She also reviews budget projectors, portable projectors, universal remote controls, and other AV accessories for Wirecutter.

Best For Portable Play: Ugreen Bluetooth Adapter For Nintendo Switch

The UGreen Bluetooth Adapter is unique in that it’s the only adapter that doesn’t utilize the Switch’s USB-C port when playing portable. It instead makes use of the headphone jack at the top of your device. It’s a dual-channel device and supports Bluetooth 5.0, just like the other adapters on this list, and is easy to install and use.

The UGreen Bluetooth Adapter is meant for portable play and can hold eight hours of battery life off a two-hour charge. However, that’s also one of the downsides to this device â it’s only meant for portable use and doesn’t work at all if your system is docked. While this limits its use on the normal Nintendo Switch, it’s not a deal-breaker at all if you use a Nintendo Switch Lite.

While the UGREEN Bluetooth Adapter is handy and easy to use, it’s limited in a few key departments. It can’t be used during docked play, and it also covers the Game Card slot, so you’ll have to unplug it to swap your physical game cartridges. This isn’t much of a problem if you play only digital games and only own a Switch Lite, but you may have some trouble if you find yourself outside of those two parameters.

    Windows 10 And 11 Note

Unlike previous versions of Windows, it is not a viable option to disable a built-in Bluetooth adapter via Device Manager. Roughly every six months a major update to Windows is released by Microsoft, and when those updates are applied, it enables devices that were previously disabled in Device Manager.

The only way to reliably use the Plugable Bluetooth adapter, if your computer has a built-in Bluetooth adapter, is to disable the built-in adapter in your computer’s BIOS configuration. This prevents Windows from being able to detect the hardware.

Stream Clear Digital Sound From Wired Devices Using Bluetooth Audio Transmitters/receivers

1Mii USB Bluetooth Adapter for PC

Connect digital and analog sources to the TOSLINK and stereo jacks of Bluetooth adapters that support audio transmission and receiving to pass wired input audio to the wired system while transmitting to Bluetooth devices. Some hubs have a select volume boost for analog input and output devices for easy optimization, while built-in speakers provide a voice-assisted and simplified setup process. Transmission mode permits transmitting TV sound to cord-free headphones for private listening, and receive mode streams audio from your Bluetooth-enabled device to a wired home theater receiver or soundbar. These Bluetooth adapters have a long wireless range, offering more freedom to position speakers with no signal loss.

    Headphone Port Vs Charging Port

The most important specification to check on when looking for the best Nintendo Switch adapter is how the adapter plugs into the console. While the vast majority of Switch Bluetooth adapters plug directly into the consoles charging port, which is also known as a USB-C port, you can find a few models that plug into the consoles headphone port as well. Many users prefer this because it allows them to charge the console while using the adapter since it doesnt need to be plugged into the devices charging port.

Connect Peripherals Without The Tangle Of Wires

Bluetooth technology lets users connect without using wires. Bluetooth adapters feature a USB interface for simple connectivity and compatibility with a range of compatible computers, wireless accessories and devices. The nano form factor of most mini USB Bluetooth adapters makes them suitable for leaving in your laptop during travel, and they easily fit into USB ports of desktops without disrupting other cables around them.

  • Best Premium: Airfly Pro

    LOGILINK USB

Start using your Bluetooth headphones with your Nintendo Switch in just seconds using the AirFly Pro, which uses a standard headphone jack. It will provide you with quality sound across 33 feet, so you don’t have to be too close to your console or any other device while you listen.

The battery lasts for a full 16 hours on a single charge and features a small red light to let you know that it still needs to power up. The device comes with a little travel pouch that neatly fits it and the USB-C to USB-A charging cable. The headphone jack cap also has a keyring if you prefer to attach it to your purse or backpack.

AirFly Pro provides low latency Bluetooth 5.0 sound, but it’s the priciest option on this list. Its shape is also a bit awkward and can flop around on your Switch when it’s in handheld mode and block the screen if you’re not careful.

    The Best Bluetooth Headphone Adapter

If youre still attached to a favorite pair of wired headphones but you want to mate it with a Bluetooth device , we think the FiiO BTR is the best Bluetooth receiver/headphone adapter for the job. It sounds good, its design is small but intuitive, and a convenient clip makes it easier to use on the move than competitors. But the best option for most people who want to listen wirelessly to their phone, tablet, or computer is to buy a set of good Bluetooth headphones, which generally offer easier-to-use controls and a better-placed microphone for improved call quality.

    Our pick

The BTR adds wireless connectivity to your favorite wired headphones, sounds almost as good as a wired connection, and costs less than buying new headphones.

    Buying Options

*At the time of publishing, the price was $20.

The FiiO BTR offers a reliable wireless Bluetooth connection, produces sound quality close to that of a wired connection, and supports desirable audio codecs like aptX and AAC. This small, lightweight adapter clips easily to your clothing, has simple controls, and can charge quickly over a USB-C connection, with enough battery power to last through an entire nine-hour workday. It also has a microphone for taking calls or using voice control, but the microphone is a little awkward to use and its audio sounds a bit compressed.
